CINEMA CLUB
St John’s Theatre proudly brings the magic of cinema to Listowel on the second Tuesday of every month, transforming our beloved venue into a hub for film enthusiasts. Each month, the big screen is rolled down to showcase a carefully curated selection of acclaimed international films, providing a unique opportunity for local cinema lovers to experience the artistry and storytelling of the world's best filmmakers. All films are brought to us in partnership with Access Cinema Ireland, who provide access to the best Irish, World and Independent Cinema.
Our Cinema Club is dedicated to delivering a diverse range of quality cinema that is often overlooked by commercial cinema screens. We believe in the power of film to inspire, challenge, and entertain, and we strive to offer a lineup that reflects this commitment. With a focus on independent, foreign, and critically acclaimed films, our screenings are designed to broaden horizons and ignite conversations within our community.
Tom McElligott, a passionate advocate for local cinema and a key figure from SaveOurCinema in Listowel, serves as our chief advisor on upcoming film screenings. With his extensive knowledge and love for cinema, Tom ensures that our selections not only entertain but also resonate with our audience, making each screening a memorable experience.
To date, our film lineup has featured a remarkable array of titles, including the hauntingly beautiful "An Cailín Ciúin," the thought-provoking "Anatomy of a Fall," the energetic and vibrant "Kneecap," and the poignant "The Old Oak." Other notable films include "Elaha," "La Syndicaliste," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "Une Triomphe," and many more. Each film brings its own unique story, inviting viewers to explore new perspectives and engage with a variety of themes.
